SapienceS2P offers clients using older procurement software a range of migration and upgrade services to suit any requirements. Our SAP experience and long-standing industry track record makes us the ideal choice, whether you’re trying to consolidate a range of legacy services and features or just want a straightforward upgrade to the latest SAP cloud procurement platform.
First things first: our two-week assessment audit:
The first step is our free two-week audit assessment to find out whether you should migrate sooner or later. Remember, while many older SAP products are classed as “sunsetting” and are no longer in active development, these same products may still be supported for many years to come. Additionally, just because something isn’t in active development doesn’t mean we can’t help you get more out of it before you upgrade.
Your audit assessment will consider a range of things from your existing systems, through to your budget, current user base, and more.
Why Migrate (And why wait)?
If you’re still using one of SAP’s on-prem legacy procurement solutions, there are lots of reasons to upgrade to the latest cloud software. By switching to SAP Ariba or S/4 Hana cloud procurement solutions, you can gain huge advantages compared with your previous set-up. Cloud procurement software gives you access to the latest in features and services, making your procurement system more resilient when there’s a crisis like the recent pandemic.
However, there are lots of reasons why you may not be ready to upgrade. Budget is one of the more obvious ones, but there are lots more. You may be worried about staff training or need more time to plan changes to existing systems. Maybe you’re already in the middle of a major IT project and need to wait until there are more resources for the change, or maybe you’re just so happy with things as they are you don’t want to rock the boat just yet.
If your existing SAP deployment is relatively straightforward, we have a number of off-the-shelf migration tools for the most common SAP software upgrades. Examples include:
- Migrate SAP CI3 – SAP CI9 to SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway
- Migrate SAP SRM to SAP S/4 Hana Central Procurement
- Migrate invoices from SAP Ariba to almost anywhere using RPA

Update, Upgrade or Migrate: What's the difference?
You may be wondering what the difference is between these three common software terms, and for those of you from a non-technical background it can be confusing. Essentially an update usually describes an in-place minor patch or code change that doesn’t majorly affect the functioning of the software. It should (hopefully) have been tested by the software vendor to make sure it doesn’t affect how the application interacts with other software, so issues are uncommon (but not impossible). Typical updates may include security patches, or changes to make sure your application keeps on working when a 3rd party software vendor’s product has gone through a significant upgrade.
An upgrade usually describes a group of updates that make changes to the look and functionality of the application that are (considered to be) an improvement by the software vendor. Making sure an upgrade acts as it should involves more testing to ensure forwards and backwards compatibility. If your deployment has a lot of customisations (or sometimes even if not), you will need professional consultants to help manage the upgrade to make sure everything keeps on working as it should.
An upgrade can mean some pretty big changes in compatibility, so expert help is advisable, especially for mission-critical software. A typical example would be upgrading from one version to another of a software application, such as Windows 10 to Windows 11. However, upgrades don’t involve major changes to the underlying architecture of the program.
Migrations, on the other hand, are used when there are changes to the underlying architecture, or when a new system is being built that uses existing data from another system in a new capacity. Data migration can be an essential part of an upgrade but is rarely called for during normal updates.
Migration often calls for the copying of mission-critical data across to the new system without any errors. This data may or may not need to change format, be copied to another server, or need access permissions adjusting. It’s essential the systems in question are properly assessed, and data is moved or copied correctly in a way that makes sure all the systems involved will work correctly.
Because of this, consulting an expert is an essential part of any software or data migration. A typical example would be transitioning from an older on-prem deployment to the latest cloud SaaS solution. Data migration tools help automate the process, making it faster, safer and cheaper.
